Rant: poster tape let go at 3am and took paint with it

Woke up around 3am to a loud snap in my bedroom in Portland. Thought it was a pipe or something. Nope. My big fabric poster came off the wall above my bed. The tape held for 6 weeks then just gave up. Took a chunk of the paint with it, left a nasty gray scar right where I look every morning. Tried the cheap double sided tape from the dollar store. Bad move. Now I'm stuck with a nail hole and a paint match job. Anyone else had poster tape wreck their paint? What do you use that actually stays without destroying the wall?

Command strips are the way to go if you get the real ones, not the dollar store knockoffs. They hold way better and come off clean if you pull the tab right instead of yanking.
