Before and after: what 2 months of rain did to my grandmother's porch photo from 1988
Everyone in this group says old film photos fade in a slow even way, but that is not what happened to this one. I have a shot of my grandmother's porch in Asheville from July 1988, and the left side where the water hit it 4 times that summer is almost white now while the right side still has deep greens and reds. I scanned it at 1200 dpi and the fade line stops in a sharp curve, so it looks like liquid damage, not age. If slow fading was the real cause, the whole frame would be washed out the same amount, and it is not even close. Has anyone else seen a hard edge like this on an old print, and did a pro scan or a phone scan show it more clearly?
Did the water drip from a leak above it or something like that? That sharp curvy edge really does sound like something soaked in from one side. Sorry you're dealing with that, must be a bummer seeing your grandma's porch pic half gone like that.
