Debate: Is it rude to ask someone to put away their phone during a board game or am I being a grump?
My buddy Mark said last night that checking his phone between turns helps him focus better and accused me of policing his fun, but I think it breaks the whole group vibe when someone is scrolling mid-game, so who's right here?

Oh man I used to totally be on your buddy's side actually! I'd be like "it's just a turn based game chill out" but then a friend called me out and made me realize I was missing all the little jokes and table talk while I was zoning out on my phone. Now I'm in the same boat as you, it really does kill the whole group energy when someone's scrolling between turns.

Read this article once that said constant phone checking actually lowers your ability to focus on the game itself, not just socially. Seems like when you keep switching between your phone and the table you never fully get into either one, just half-arsing both.
