Five games in before I realized I was playing Castles of Burgundy totally wrong

I was playing with my group last Saturday and kept getting destroyed by my wife every single round. I was so frustrated because I thought I had a solid strategy. Then my buddy leans over and points out I had been ignoring the silver mines for the whole first half of the game. Turns out I was supposed to be using them to buy extra tiles, not just hoarding them for end game points. Has anyone else missed a core mechanic for that long?

Nah, the mines are just one way to play, not the only way.

Bet the devs put the mines in because they wanted them to be the main challenge though lol.
