Got called out at a tournament in Columbus for slow play - still annoyed

Guy across from me started timing my turns on his phone during round 3 of a 4-player game and said I was 'chewing up the clock' when I was just checking the rulebook. Has anyone else run into people who treat casual board game nights like they're competing for a cash prize?

Sounds like that guy was competing for the Nobel Peace Prize of petty board game policing. Next time just pull out a chess clock and tell him you'll match his timer for every bathroom break he takes. Nothing says "casual game night" like someone timing your rulebook checks with a stopwatch app. I'd have started reading the rulebook out loud just to make sure he heard every single page flip. Some people think they're playing for a mortgage payment instead of a fake victory point for a game that's going back in the closet next week.

Rulebook readings are brutal. Had a buddy do that once. Game night died fast.
