Had to pick between euro games and ameritrash back in 2012
I was deep into board gaming around 2012 and had to make a call. My group loved the theme and dice of games like Arkham Horror, but I was burning out on setup and randomness. I picked a euro game - Castles of Burgundy - and it felt like a breath of fresh air with its strategy and efficiency. That choice basically split my collection in half, and I never looked back. Now I own mostly euros, but I still miss the chaos sometimes. Anyone else hit a similar fork in the road with their group?

I get where you're coming from, but I have to disagree a little. For me, 2012 was when ameritrash actually won me over. I had tried euros like Agricola and found them too much like work. All that planning and resource counting just felt dry after a while. My group went with Eldritch Horror and we never looked back. The chaos you miss is exactly what keeps us coming back to the table. Every game is a story, not a spreadsheet.

Every game is a story, not a spreadsheet... unless you're me and the story is about how I forgot the rules again.
