I think Catan is way too overhyped for what it actually offers.

I traded a copy for a $15 used game called Yellow & Yangtze at a local shop in Portland and my group hasn't stopped playing it for two months. Has anyone else found an underrated gem that replaced a popular classic for them?

Three years ago I traded a half-eaten bag of spicy nacho Doritos for someone's copy of Settlers of Catan at a camping trip and honestly I still think about that transaction. @beth_baker69 you tapped into this weird economy where stuff we think has value is really just about the moment you're in. My buddy once swapped a full tank of gas for a ride to a party he didn't even want to go to and he still calls that a win. It's like our brains have a separate currency for short-term happiness that makes zero sense on paper. You didn't lose Catan you gained instant satisfaction and a snack.
