Just finished painting my first full set of miniatures for Gloomhaven

Three years ago I bought the game on a whim at a shop in Austin, but the grey plastic always bugged me. Last month I finally grabbed some Citadel paints and spent about 15 hours over the last week getting all 17 starting characters done. It's not pro level, but seeing them all colored on the table feels amazing. Anyone have tips for making the bases look good without spending a fortune?

Wow, you spent more time painting them than I did actually playing the game.

Man, that first painted set feeling is unbeatable. I did the same thing with my Blood Bowl team last year after they sat in a box for ages. The weird thing is, once I finished, I got so into basing I almost forgot about the game. I started using tiny bits of broken up cork board for rocks and painting it all with cheap craft paint. It looks way more expensive than it is.

Try mixing a little sand from a craft store with white glue for a simple textured base.
