Just hit 200 plays on Ark Nova, finally get the hype

I was one of those people who thought it was just a worse Terraforming Mars for months, but after that 150th game something clicked and now I see the engine building is way more satisfying. Has anyone else had a number like that where a game suddenly made sense?

200 plays" is insane I barely have that many total plays across my whole collection. I can barely get a single game to the table that many times let alone one game. Thats some serious dedication to learn a game that deep.

200 plays is just a lot of time to sink into one game. @flores.tessa has a point, most people can't even get that many games of anything in. Is it really that deep or do you just like the comfort of something familiar at that point? I've seen people hit 100 plays of a game and still miss basic rules.

People get like that with everything now, not just games. I see it with cooking shows where someone brags about making the same recipe fifty times but still burns the garlic every single time. It's like people pick a comfort zone and just live there because it feels safe, not because they're actually good at it. Real mastery comes from pushing through the boring parts and asking why something works, not just going through the motions. There's a difference between knowing a game and just being used to it. Most folks confuse familiarity with skill.
