Last month at game night I finally understood why my friend always wins at complex strategy games

My buddy Mark has been crushing us at stuff like Terraforming Mars for like 3 years now (ever since we started a monthly game night). Last month I finally asked him how he does it, expecting some secret trick. He told me he spends 15 minutes after each game writing down what went wrong and what he'd do different next time. I thought that was super nerdy, even for us board game geeks you know? But then I tried it after our last session, writing down that I never use the energy track early enough. Next game I actually placed second for the first time in ages. Has anyone else tried doing a little post-game journal to get better at heavy games?

Wait wait wait, he journals after board games? Like actually writes stuff down? That's next level dedication, I barely remember to put my own dishes in the sink after our game nights.
