My gaming group swore by a 'must buy' rule for new games and I finally broke it
For years, my friends in our weekly game night crew had one firm piece of advice: never buy a board game with a weight rating under 3.0 on BoardGameGeek. They said lighter games were a waste of money and got boring fast. I listened and built a shelf full of heavy strategy games like 'Through the Ages' and 'Gaia Project'. Last month, my sister visited and brought 'Cascadia', which has a weight around 1.8. We played it three times in one night, and everyone, including my hardcore friends, had a blast. It was simple to teach, quick to play, and just plain fun. Now I have a whole new section of my collection for games under that magic number. What's a light game that surprised your group?

Totally get that. My group had the same snobby rule. Then we tried 'Quest for El Dorado'. It's a deck builder but so smooth and fast. Completely changed our minds about light games.

Yeah, it's funny how that happens... @daniel511 is right about those games sneaking up on you. My group had the same shock with 'Skull', it's just cards but the mind games are heavier than most rulebooks.
