My scoring dice tray trick made me feel like an idiot for 5 years

I used to stack all my tokens and dice in a pile in the middle of the table, thinking it saved space. Then last Saturday during a 4 player game of Agricola, someone knocked the whole pile over and we spent 15 minutes sorting wheat and sheep. My buddy just looked at me and said, "you know those little bowls are for sorting, right?" I had been playing for years without using the included trays. Now I always separate resources into their own cup, and setup takes half the time. Anyone else ignore the insert pieces and then regret it mid-game?
