Remember when everyone played Catan until 3am?

Last week my group dug out my old 2008 copy of Settlers and the tiles are so warped they barely fit together. Three years ago nobody would touch anything newer than Carcassonne, now I can't get them to stop pulling out Everdell every session. Anyone else's group slowly ditch the classics?

Full disagree, Catan is still the best game ever made because nothing else gets people arguing over sheep at 2am the same way. All these newer games like Everdell are just pretty art with shallow gameplay that burn out after five plays. Classic games stuck around for a reason, and my group still plays Catan way more than any of these Kickstarter fads.

Wait, have you actually played a full game of Everdell or are you just going off the box art? Honestly, I love Catan too, no question it's a classic for a reason. But saying newer games like Everdell burn out after five plays doesn't match my experience at all. Me and my group have probably played Everdell like 30 times and we still find new combos and strategies each game. Plus the card interactions give way more depth than just rolling dice and trading sheep, which can get old after a while. Tbh, I think a lot of people who knock modern games haven't given them a real shot past one or two plays. Everdell isn't trying to replace Catan, it's just doing something different that holds up over the long haul if you actually dive into it.
