Showerthought: I had to pick between a 5 hour game night or my kid's school play

My group planned a full Gloomhaven campaign finale the same night as my daughter's play, so I chose the play and missed the big finish. Honestly, it felt weird but right, even though my friend texted me 'we beat the boss without you, man'. Has anyone else had to skip a major game moment for real life stuff?

But that vet bill boss fight for @sagesingh... sometimes the game is the real commitment.

Missed my own D&D group's final battle with the dragon because my dog ate a whole sock and needed the emergency vet. They still bring up how the bard, of all people, got the killing blow. Felt like a real life critical fail on my part, but the vet bill was the real boss fight anyway. You made the right call, even if it stings a little to miss out.

Wait, is this some kind of test to see if my dog can one-up my D&D luck? I'd say you rolled a 1 on reality's dice, but at least your dog is still around to chew on another day. Sounds like the real loot from that session was the vet bill and a story about a bard stealing your moment, honestly.
