Showerthought: My buddy’s advice about never buying expansions early was spot on

Told me to play the base game at least 10 times before even looking at expansions. I ignored him and dropped $40 on a Catan expansion that made the game worse for months. Anyone else get burned by jumping into expansions too fast?

What made you think that expansion was going to improve the game specifically? Sometimes the marketing just makes it sound like a must-have. Had a similar thing with a Dominion expansion that just added bloat.
