That 'gotta catch em all' mentality wrecked my game shelf last month

I walked out of a local board game swap in Portland with 14 titles last month because I told myself I was filling gaps in my collection, but three of them are still in shrink wrap and I don't even remember why I wanted two of them. My buddy who only owns about 8 games always beats me at everything we play because he knows every rule and strategy inside out, while I'm flipping through manuals mid-game. Does anyone else feel like owning more games actually makes you worse at enjoying the hobby, or is that just my excuse for a hoarding habit?
