Dropped $150 on a magnetic drill stand that wobbled on my first use

I needed to drill into a steel beam on a job in Gary last week and figured a cheap magnetic drill stand would get me through one project. The magnet grabbed fine on flat surfaces but the whole rig shifted when I started the bit, nearly ruining the beam alignment. Anyone else had a budget magnetic setup let them down on a tight tolerance job?

Man that sucks but honestly is the alignment really that critical? I mean it's a beam not a piece of fine furniture.
