Dropped $60 on a magnetic tray for the job site and it actually paid off
I was sick of losing bolts and drill bits down the grates on this refinery job in Gary, so I grabbed a big magnetic parts tray at the supply house for 60 bucks. First week I used it, I dropped a 1-inch impact socket and it caught it before it fell 4 stories into a mud pit. Has anyone else found a cheap tool that saved them more than it cost?

Honestly, I gotta disagree with the whole "tool that saved me money" thing here. You dropped a 60 dollar tray and it caught a 20 dollar socket, that's not a win, that's basic physics doing its job. Ngl, I think you overspent when a 15 dollar harbor freight magnetic tray wouldve done the same thing for catching that socket. Plus if you just organized your gear better or used a lanyard on the expensive stuff, you wouldn't need a fancy magnet to bail you out. Tbh, spending that much on a parts tray feels like an excuse for being careless with your tools.
