Found out the hard way that pipe dope and Teflon tape don't mix on threaded fittings
Had a 6 inch steam line leak at a plant in Gary last month. Old timer told me to just pick one, not both. Tried it with just tape on the next job and it held perfectly. Anyone else run into this or was I just doing it wrong?

Funny how that rule applies to EVERYTHING in life, not just pipes.
