Hot take: That safety rep in Baton Rouge changed how I prep for tube sheet repairs

Back in 2018, I was on a shutdown at a plant near Baton Rouge and this old boilermaker named Chuck pulled me aside before we started on a tube sheet. He showed me how he marks every tube with a color code for the torque sequence - said it saves him from rework 90% of the time. I still use his system today, even on small jobs with only 50 tubes. Anybody else got a trick they learned from one specific person that stuck with them?

Chuck's color code system is solid. I worked with a guy out of Texas who did something similar but he used a grease pencil to number each tube instead of colors. He said it saved him from having to re-torque after a hydrotest because he knew exactly which ones he already hit. Colors fade fast on greasy tubes, numbers last longer. That method cut my time on a 200 tube heat exchanger by almost a full day compared to just winging it.
