Old foreman told me to stop fighting the torch and let it do the work

Kept fighting the rosebud on a preheat in Gary last month, guy yanked it out my hand and showed me in 2 minutes. Anyone else had a mentor drop some simple advice that clicked way later?

Oh man, I spent way too long trying to outsmart a pry bar once.

Is it just me or do pry bars have this way of making you feel like you're smarter than a piece of metal? I once wrestled with one for a solid 20 minutes trying to pop a stubborn floorboard, only to realize I had the angle all wrong and it was actually super easy. Ended up bent over like a goof with my hand slipping and hitting my shin, totally embarrassing.
