Old timer at the shop told me my welds were too cold.
Been doing this for about 8 years now. This old boilermaker, must have been 60 plus, walks by my bay and just says 'son, your puddle ain't wet enough'. I was running 125 amps on 1/8 inch rod like I always did. He showed me to bump it to 140 and slow my travel down about 20 percent. First bead I laid after that just flowed out smooth. Anyone else get a tip like that from a veteran that felt obvious after?

Man, that's a solid tip but 140 amps on 1/8 inch 6010 is actually a little hot for most positions unless you're welding flat or have some thick plate.

Same thing with grinder discs, everyone thinks more power always does a better job until it digs in and kicks back.
