Old timer called me out for rushing root passes last Tuesday

A 30 year welder watched me burn through a joint and said slow down, puddle control is everything. Man was I gripping that stinger too tight, loosened my grip and the bead laid flat. Anyone else get humbled by a veteran watching over your shoulder?

My uncle (55 years in the trade) always says the same thing about burning through joints, especially on thin wall pipe. He told me once that the real secret is watching the puddle flatten out before you move, not just going at it like a race.

55 years is impressive but I think she might have the number mixed up with his age.
