Overheard a foreman bragging he'd never used a rigging card in 20 years
Was on a site in Lansing last Tuesday and listened to this guy tell a new apprentice that load calculations are just for the office guys. Took everything I had not to jump in and explain how a buddy of mine dropped a 500 pound boiler plate because someone eyeballed the sling angle. How do you handle old school guys who think paperwork is a waste of time?

ross.river is absolutely right, eyeballing a sling angle is how people end up in the hospital. I saw a guy try to wing it with a beam lift once (thought he had 20 years of experience so he knew better) and the whole load twisted sideways before anyone could even yell. Paperwork saves lives, plain and simple.
