That $20 chalk line reel kept jamming, so I switched to the string method
For boiler tube layouts the chalk line was always snagging on the header edges, drove me nuts for months. I started pulling a tight nylon string between two studs and snapping it, way smoother and no chalk dust all over the place. Anyone else ditch the reel for something simpler on big layouts?

So you're saying the string never stretches or sags on those long boiler runs, or do you just retighten it every few feet?
