That journeyman told me to stop chasing bubbles with a hammer and torch, I thought he was nuts
Old guy named Pete on a job in Gary back in 2019 told me to quit hammering out every bubble I saw on a furnace repair. Said I was making the metal fatigue worse. I ignored him for 2 weeks and ended up cracking a 3/8 plate on a pressure vessel. Had to cut it out and weld a patch which cost the shop like $400 in material and my whole weekend. Pete was right, slow heat and let it relax itself. Anyone else have an old timer give you advice that saved your ass later?
