Tube sheet holes didn't line up on a retrofit

Spent hours reaming them out. The tubes slid in perfect after that. Rewarding to see it come together.

Rewarding? Sounds like you just covered up a big problem. Forcing tubes to fit can cause stress failures down the line.

Last year's coolant line retrofit at the shop looked perfect until Tuesday, when my "persuasion" with a rubber mallet came back to haunt us. Let's just say the term "percussive maintenance" is now BANNED on my work orders. You're absolutely right, it was a textbook cover-up that turned into a very damp, very expensive lesson.

Been there, done that, got the wet t-shirt. Tried to "adjust" a pipe bracket once and it held for a whole six months before it let go all at once.
