Warning: I almost missed a hairline crack in a 3-year-old boiler weld during a routine check in a Cedar Rapids school last Tuesday.
The light was bad and I was rushing to finish before the bell, but catching it made me wonder, what's the one thing you always double-check even when you're pressed for time?

Man, that's a close call. I always drag out my good flashlight, even if I'm in a hurry. A phone light just doesn't cut it for spotting hairline cracks or checking for corrosion in a tight spot. It's saved me more than once on old pipe threads and flange faces. What's your go-to piece of gear when time is tight?

Used to skip it, learned the hard way.

Rushing before the bell in a school? That's the universe setting you up for a prank. Almost gave those kids an unexpected steam heat demo. My double-check is always the isolation valves. Picture this: you're done, you turn the water back on, and you forgot to open one valve. Whole system's airlocked and now you're the idiot.
