Why I stopped using soap on my welding hood lens

Spent 3 years cleaning my glass with dish soap and got sick of the streaks. A old timer at the union hall in Hammond told me to just use plain water and a microfiber cloth. Has anyone else found their lens lasts longer without chemicals?

Different strokes for different folks I guess. Wiped my hood lens with plain water for a month and ended up with way more crusty spatter buildup than before. The grease from cutting just smeared around instead of breaking down. Had to switch back to a tiny drop of dawn and a wet rag. Maybe it depends on what you're welding.

Maybe you should try a mix of dawn and water.
