Chasing a bad glue smell for 2 weeks, turns out it was my PVA mix

I had this nasty sour smell coming off a batch of journals I bound last month and spent forever blaming my wheat paste. Tore apart my whole workbench in Tulsa trying to find the culprit. Finally realized I'd left a jar of PVA open near my humidifier and it had gone bad, the smell was coming from the glue itself not the paste. Now I date every adhesive jar when I open it and toss anything older than 3 months. Anyone else ever had a whole batch ruined by expired glue without realizing it?
