Finally tried pH-neutral PVA after years of standard stuff

I was always loyal to the regular PVA from the craft store, but last month I got a chance to use pH-neutral PVA on a rebind of an old 1920s novel and wow. The difference in how the pages laid flat was noticeable right away, and no warping after drying overnight either. I know the archival folks swear by it, but I figured it was overhyped. Has anyone else made the swap and noticed a big difference, or is it mainly for old paper?
