Had a guy bring in a Bible held together with duct tape and zip ties

He told me his grandpa patched it up in 1978 and wanted me to keep the repairs looking exactly the same, so I charged him $65 and just glued the spine back while leaving the tape on, has anyone else had a customer insist on keeping a janky old repair?

Honestly, $65 seems like a lot for just gluing a spine and not touching the tape. Feels like you charged him extra for the privilege of not doing your actual job. I mean, that Bible is probably not going to last another 50 years with that tape holding the pages together, but whatever makes the customer happy I guess. Sometimes people get weirdly attached to the ugliest parts of an object and miss the whole point of a repair.
