A little old lady at the farmer's market changed how I look at roses

Last Saturday morning I was picking up some herbs and this tiny lady was arguing with the vendor about a rose bush that had one weird, twisted stem. She pointed at it and said 'that one's got character, it'll tell a better story than the perfect ones.' I stood there for a minute watching her buy it and walk off with this big grin. It made me think about all the plants I've tossed aside for looking off when they probably had the most to offer. Has anyone else had a plant that was ugly as sin but ended up being their favorite?

Is that rose still kicking around in your garden today?
