Debate: Did my terrarium actually need more airflow or less?

I sealed my moss terrarium tight for 6 months and it thrived, then opened it for a day and half the plants started browning. Has anyone else had the opposite result where sealing killed their setup?

Oh man, that sounds rough, I’ve been in that same boat before with my own setup. I had a sealed jar of ferns that was picture perfect for months, then one airing out and it all went south on me too. It’s like once you break that balance, everything gets confused and browning just takes over fast.

Solid point @ross.river but I think people miss something obvious. Ferns especially hate sudden humidity drops way more than any temp change. That airing out hit your jar like a shockwave. The foliage doesn't know what hit it. Sealed setups need slow transitions. Try cracking the lid an inch for a day before fully opening next time.
