Just counted 47 different fern types in my backyard collection
I was cleaning up my shade garden in Portland and decided to actually list everything. When I got to 47 ferns, I had to check my notes twice because I started with just 3 maidenhairs a few years ago. It really shows how one plant can lead you down a rabbit hole of finding new species. Has anyone else been surprised by how many of one plant type they've ended up with?
Wow, that's an insane number! I totally get the rabbit hole thing, it happened to me with hostas. You start looking for just a "blue one" and next thing you know you're tracking down every weird corrugated leaf type. The hunt becomes the whole hobby.
