My $12 soil probe beat a $200 moisture meter

Bought one of those fancy digital meters last spring, useless in my heavy clay. Yesterday I used a cheap steel probe from the hardware store, wet soil sticks to it like glue. Has anyone else dumped their gadget for the old-school method?

Ha, that's exactly what I found too! The digital one just confuses me with numbers, but my cheap probe tells me in two seconds if it's time to water.
