My neighbor told me my vegetable garden is a waste of water

I was out watering my tomatoes in Denver yesterday, and my neighbor Bob leaned over the fence. He said, 'You know, with the drought, all that is just pouring city water into the dirt.' I've always seen my garden as a good thing, but his comment stuck with me all evening. It made me wonder if I should switch to only drought-resistant native plants. Has anyone else had this kind of talk and changed their whole planting plan?

Bob's not factoring in the water it takes to grow and ship those grocery store tomatoes. Your hose might beat a semi truck from California.

Hmm, don't forget the water used to grow the tomatoes themselves though...

Maxm50 has a great point about the shipping water.
