Rant: Was overwatering my succulents for 6 months because I thought shriveled leaves meant thirsty
Turns out those mushy bottom leaves were rot from sitting in wet soil, not dehydration. Caught it when I pulled a dead Echeveria out and the roots were basically soup. Anybody else kill a few before figuring out the soak-and-dry method?

Wait, you thought shriveled meant thirsty? Oh man, that hurts my soul. I did the exact same thing with my first jade plant. I kept seeing the bottom leaves get all wrinkly and soft so I'd water it more, not realizing the roots were already drowning. By the time I finally figured it out the whole stem was just mush and slid right out of the pot like a wet noodle. The soak-and-dry method is basically the only way I can keep anything alive now, especially since my apartment has zero air flow.
