That $60 moisture meter I bought was a total scam - my fern told me the truth

I kept getting overwatering warnings even though my fern was clearly thirsty, so I tested it against just sticking my finger in the dirt and the meter was off by a mile. Anyone else find those digital meters are junk or did I just get a bad one?

Hold on, your fern told you the truth? That's a good one, I had to read it twice. But seriously, sixty dollars for a moisture meter that can't even beat the finger test is a crime. I've had the same experience with a couple of cheap ones, but paying that much for a dud is really frustrating. Makes you wonder if any of them are actually accurate or just guessing.

Yeah the finger test never lets me down either. @thomas_roberts I read somewhere that those meters work by measuring electrical conductivity, so they're basically useless if your soil has any kind of fertilizer or salt buildup in it.
