Dropped $340 on a used mortar mixer and it saved my back on a 900 brick job
Picked up a used paddle mixer off a guy in Fresno last month for $340. I was mixing 80 lb bags by hand in a wheelbarrow before that and my shoulders were shot by noon every day. First job with it was a 900 brick wall out in Clovis and I finished the mud in half the time with way less ache. The bearings sound a little rough when it's cold though, so now I'm wondering if I should've held out for a new one. Anybody else running an old mixer and how long did yours last before it crapped out?
Bearings making noise cold isn't always a death sentence. I ran a $200 Craigslist special for six years and it whined every winter morning, but once it warmed up it was fine. Grease it good and keep an ear on it, and it might outlast you. Holding out for new would've cost you four or five times that, and a new one can quit on you just as easy if you don't keep up on it.
