Dropped a trowel off a third story scaffold last month

I was working a repoint job in Arlington on an old church, and my trowel slid right off the plank. It landed in a pile of wet mortar on the ground, but the handle cracked in half. Any tips for keeping tools secure up high without slowing down?

Maybe try one of those magnetic wristbands for screws and bits? I mean it's not perfect for a trowel but there's some heavy duty ones out there. Could clip a little carabiner to your belt loop with a short lanyard too, just enough to catch it if it slips.

Build a little holster out of an old leather belt and some rivets. Cut the belt into a loop that fits around your waist belt, then stitch or rivet it into a pocket shape for the trowel handle. Had a buddy at the hardware store do this for his pruning shears, works like a charm. Costs basically nothing if you've got scrap leather lying around.
