Heard a guy at the supply yard say he never uses a line level for a garden wall

I was picking up a pallet of pavers in Everett yesterday and this older mason was talking to the yard guy. He said, 'For a simple three-foot garden wall, I just eyeball it. A line level is for kids and big jobs.' It really got me thinking. I've always used a line level for everything, even a short run. It's a habit from my first boss who drilled it into me. But maybe he's right? On a small, non-structural wall, you can see a dip from ten feet away if you know what to look for. It might save a few minutes setting up. I'm not sure I'm brave enough to try it on a paid job, though. Has anyone else switched to eyeballing small projects, or is that just asking for callbacks?

Ever had a client who can spot a 1/4 inch dip from their kitchen window? That's why my line level still comes out for every course.
