Old foreman warned me about mixing mortar too wet, I called him outdated

Last summer I was rushing through a patio job in Phoenix and kept adding extra water to make it spread easier, cracks showed up within 3 weeks. Had to tear out 200 sq ft of work because the mortar was too weak, anyone else learn this the hard way?

Man I did the exact same thing on my first patio, ended up with cracks that looked like a dried up riverbed. Learned that lesson the hard way for sure.
