Remember when we all used to mix mortar by hand on the job?

I was on a job in Tacoma about 8 years ago, and the crew chief insisted we use a wheelbarrow and a hoe for the whole foundation. My arms were dead by lunch. The next site I worked, the contractor had a portable mortar mixer, the kind that runs off a generator. We did three times the work before noon and the mix was way more consistent. I've never gone back to hand mixing for anything bigger than a small repair. Anyone still using the old wheelbarrow method, or is that pretty much gone now?

I tried that once for a patio and my arms were jello for a week lol. Never again.
