Serious question, who else still lays block to a line instead of a laser level
Back when I started on a crew in Gary, Indiana, we strung a line between corner blocks every morning and that line was the law. Picked up a cheap rotary laser a couple seasons back and my walls come out flatter with way less squinting down the corner. Still keep the string in the truck for small stuff like porch piers, though, since setting up the tripod for four blocks feels dumb. Anybody made the full switch or do you still run a line for certain jobs?
I ran string for 8 years before my wife got me a Bosch laser for Christmas. Walls went from "looks fine from here" to dead nuts in a week, probably should've switched sooner. Still use the line when I'm stacking block by myself though, laser don't help much when you need to eyeball it from both ends.
