The wall I thought would take 2 days took a full week instead.
I was laying a reclaimed brick wall for a patio in Nashville and those old bricks were all different sizes, had to stop and mix mortar 3 times more than normal. Has anyone else had a simple job totally blow up on timing like that?

Hear me out though is a week really that bad for reclaimed brick? I've seen guys spend two weeks on a simple garden wall just because the stones were all different sizes. Three extra mortar batches sounds annoying but that's maybe a couple extra hours total spread over five more days. Feels like the kind of thing you'd vent about over a beer then forget by Monday. Maybe I'm missing something but this seems like standard old house problems in Nashville.

a full week instead" - man, I straight up gasped when I read that. Two days to seven days is a brutal swing. Those reclaimed bricks sound like a nightmare. I've done enough masonry to know that even a quarter inch difference in size means you're constantly dry fitting, pulling your hair out, then mixing up more mortar than you planned. Three extra batches of mortar? That's like an extra four hours of just mixing and hauling. I bet by day five you were ready to throw a brick through a window.
