Almost lost a finger trying to fix a cheap radio with a butter knife

I was in my garage last Tuesday, prying open this old $5 thrift store radio with a butter knife and it slipped, slicing right into my palm and hitting something that bled for an hour. Ended up just taping the cut and tossing the radio since my free hand couldn't hold it steady, anyone else have a cheap tool or hack backfire on them like this?

An hour of bleeding from a butter knife cut? Yikes, that is terrifying.

Is an hour of bleeding really that unusual though? I've had paper cuts that bled just as long, it's not the depth of the cut it's where you get it. Fingers and hands have a ton of tiny blood vessels close to the surface so even a shallow nick can gush for a while. I'd say the real risk here is infection from bacteria on the knife, not the bleeding itself. Unless the person was taking blood thinners or had a clotting disorder, an hour of oozing is kind of normal for a hand wound.

Wait was it a butter knife with a serrated edge or a totally smooth one? I ask because I once cut my thumb on a piece of printer paper and it bled for like 45 minutes straight. Like I was just standing there watching blood drip onto my desk wondering if I was secretly a vampire or something. Had to wrap it in like 5 bandaids and it still soaked through before I gave up and used duct tape. Paper cuts are no joke but a butter knife sounds way worse honestly. Hope their tetanus shot was up to date because even though it wasn't rusty, you never know what's lurking on kitchen stuff.
