My cheap bird feeder turned into a rat problem real fast

I built a bird feeder out of scrap wood and a plastic bottle last month. Worked great for about 2 weeks until squirrels found it, then rats showed up at night. They chewed through the plastic and scattered seed all over my tiny backyard in Denver. I ended up taking it down and now just scatter seed on the ground during the day instead. Has anyone else had backyard critters wreck a cheap DIY project?

Oh man, that's literally exactly what happened with my cheap feeder, it was a disaster.

Wait, did your cheap feeder also have that little plastic dome that completely cracked in the first week? @brookepark, I swear mine was basically a squirrel buffet with a side of bird seed, and the tray fell off every time the wind blew. I mean, I got what I paid for I guess, but watching it literally disintegrate in the rain was kind of hilarious. At least the squirrels got a good laugh out of it.
