My friend's comment about "just paint over it" nearly made me lose it today
She said I should just grab a free sample from the hardware store to touch up my apartment walls, but after 3 tries the color still doesn't match and now I have a patchy mess in my living room. Anyone else deal with people acting like free fixes are always simple when they clearly haven't tried it themselves?.

Just grab a free sample" sounds so simple, right? I read somewhere that paint colors shift under different lighting and on different wall textures, so a tiny sample card never matches what you actually get. It's maddening when people act like it's just a quick trip to the store.

oh totally feel you on this one. @marymorgan is right about the lighting thing - i repainted my kitchen three times before i finally gave up and just accepted the splotchy look. the worst part is when people act like you're being dramatic about the whole thing. like no, karen, this isn't about being picky, the paint literally doesn't match and now my wall looks like a leopard. free samples are a total gamble too, they never dry the same color as the full can for some reason. honestly i've started just buying the smallest actual can and testing it on a big piece of cardboard first. way less stressful than the patchwork disaster you end up with otherwise.
