Spent $30 on a used embroidery hoop set and it broke on the second project

I grabbed a bundle of 5 hoops at a thrift store thinking it was a steal, but the screw clamp stripped out on the biggest one after two days of stitching and now I'm back to wrapping yarn around a plastic takeout lid to keep my fabric tight, has anyone found a cheap hoop that actually holds up?

My friend Sarah grabbed this massive metal hoop at a garage sale for two bucks, thought she'd hit the jackpot. Thing looked like it was from the 70s, all rusty and beat up but the clamp on it is some kind of military grade beast. She's been yanking on it for six months straight, done like ten projects, and it's still tight as the day she found it. So honestly, skip the craft store stuff and hit up estate sales or Goodwill for the old metal ones with the big screw, those things don't quit. Just sand off any rust and spray paint it if the look bothers you.

Yeah @ninab95 nailed it, old metal hoops are tanks.
